Guest Lecture: Synchronous Generator Stability

[4 Sept. 2010] Yesterday during his guest lecture at ACCM, Dr. Neven Bulic addressed the regulation of high performance synchronous generators such as those used for hydroelectric and thermal power plants.

Regulated power plant generators must constantly provide stable and particularly vibration-free operation to feed the electric grid at partially or heavily variable operational points (high or low energy consumption, small or large amounts of primary energy such as steam or hydroelectric power). During his lecture, Bulic examined control methods and evaluated how robust these are in comparison to these influences.

Bulic is currently working as a scientist at the Institute for Electrical Drives and Power Electronics at Johannes Kepler University Linz as part of a one-year EU project.
